So cozy! (Weekend Recap)

Hello! I had such a simple and fun weekend, those are my favorite.

Friday when I got out of work Babe and Maia picked me up and went to Famous Dave's for some finger-licking good barbecue

! We then went home and hung out. Maia and I did her nails and we all just vegged for the evening.

Saturday Babe had the morning off so we got to sleep in a little bit and we had to take Maia to her cousin's 1st birthday party. So, I spent Saturday night alone :( But... I got to do some crafts that I have been eyeing, so that was fun. First I made some candles, but instead of wax I used Crisco. They are supposed to burn SO much longer than wax candles, so we shall see. Then I finished a pallet ottoman that I was working on, and I also made a tray for the ottoman out of a picture frame and some scrap paper.

This is Paxton - he LOVES Michigan football... He would get mad when I tried to play with him during the game, too cute!

This is the coffee table with the tray on it. You can't see it very well, the trim around it is burlap, cute cute!
Sunday Babe worked in the morning so I slept in and cleaned the house. When he got out we went and got Maia and got ready and went to the bowling alley to play some games in the arcade room, eat lunch and have some great beer. Our bowling alley has the Tap Room located inside it. They have like 16+ Michigan craft beers on tap - yummy. They have EVERYTHING you could ever want or think of... one of my favorite places!

Of course Ja'Maia and I took selfies in the bathroom... duh!

Alas, we are to Monday. I did not want to get up this morning. I wish that the weekend was longer.. but it is not, so life must go on.

Also, to top off my weekend - I received an Emma Rose update - shes so precious!?!?!

I swear, maybe one of these days I won't work anymore... probably not, but maybe! Or just another day between Saturday and Sunday would suffice!

Never Forgotten

Growing up my mom traveled a lot. It was part of her job, and none of us really, ever though twice about it. As a child I never really understood the dangers of flying until 9/11/01.

I will never forget that day. I remember being in the hallway of my high school (I was a freshman). We were on break in between classes. My boyfriend and I were talking and saying our good byes before leaving each other for next class (oh, young, young puppy love). Before we got the chance to say goodbye we hear someone come on the loud speaker and ask us to get to our next class. Thinking that it was the drug dogs, or something like that going on, we all did. Once we got into that next class we found out that our lives were about to change drastically.

All the classrooms that had TV's in them, had the news on. The other teachers were either renting one from the library or taking their class and joining another to watch.

I remember that day my dad had picked my friend and I up from school and we were headed to the gas station where we waited... and waited... and waited. The line was SO long! I didn't really understand. In my head, I didn't get why gas prices would be going up. Wouldn't more people buy more gas if they could afford it? If gas cost goes up, people will just stop buying it and then they wouldn't make any money... oh to be so naive.

Ever since that day I have never really been comfortable with my mom flying for work, gas has never been the same, so many lives have changed and so many hearts got a little heavier.

In 2009 I was given the opportunity to travel to NY with my mom and one of my best friends. Even 8 years after the tragic event, to be at the construction site for the new 9/11 memorials was one of the most heart tugging, tear making and emotional experiences of my life. Just to think about everything that happened, how many lives were taken, how many lives were changed. You just stand there - in awe- and, almost, disbelief.

Here are some pictures from my trip WAY back in 2009 (these are all during the construction).

The next picture describes this sculpture and its significance.

Today marks the 12 year anniversary of that tragic day and my mom is traveling. She is coming home from New York today. My mind has been thinking about her all day and my heart has been praying.

"The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged strong and more unified. We feel renewed devotion to the principles of political, economic and religious freedom, the rule of law and respect for human life. We are more determined than ever to live our lives in freedom."

Fall Fashion - Hair Trends

Hello! I had such a nice relaxing weekend... No complaints over here.  I did some research for this post and now I think I am ready - I hope you are!

Hair is one of my favorite things to change with the seasons. You can totally change your look and the vibe that you are trying to portray for those few months.

First off:

No. 1 - Hair color trends

Cherry Cola Brown - I think this might be my new look for this fall - I am obsessed!

Copper Red - This is the perfect choice for fair skinned women who will be taken over by a dark, deep, red color.

Butter Blonde - There are always the select few who are blonde and proud and would do anything to not get rid of their beautiful shade, but still want to change it up for the fall season. Introducing, butter blonde!
Fall 2013 Hair Trends

Bronde (Blonde and brown) - Get the best of both worlds!

Chocolate Caramel - This is a way to keep darker hair, but to add some dimension and versatility.

No. 2 - Hairstyles

Loose Waves - Not salty, beachy waves, but loose, polished and pulled together waves.

Textured Bobs - This is the perfect low-maintenance fall hairstyle

Sleek and Straight - This is an easy look to achieve. With a little bit of blow drying cream and moisturizer this sure is to be a look that many will fall back on in times of disparity. You can dress it up by making a deep part.

Bangs! - This has been a HUGE hair trend for all of 2013, not just the fall. But, bangs are so cute popping out of a slouchy beanie and help pull out the 'comfortable' look without looking lazy!

Braids - These were HUGE for this summer and will be even bigger this fall.
